Love this trail. If you are looking for a quick 35-60 minute up and down 3 mile hike to the peak on Goldmine trail. Lots of shade if you go in the mornings.

A great trailhead perfectly positioned for hiking in San Tan Mountains Regional Park. Access to trailhead is via paved roads. Access to the Goldmine and Dynamite trails is from the parking area. There are two porta-potties, cleaned frequently. A pass is required to park there, the rangers check pretty regularly. You can do a nice 4.6 mile loop following Goldmine 1/2 mile to Dynamite, then hooking up to San Tan about 2 miles further. Follow that to the other side of Goldmine. Up and over for a nice workout. Dynamite is popular with mountain bikes for an easy out and back, or access to the rest of the park. Note that the Goldmine Trail is steep and rocky, with lots of loose rock on the North side. Make sure you carry plenty of water. I got stopped halfway through the loop one time by a thirsty numbnuts. I gave him some of my water, so I assume he survived. Please don't go out there unprepared, especially in the summer. The parking lot is small, and unpaved. Following monsoon craziness each year some parts of the lot get eroded. Most cars won't have any issues (just go slowly) but if your car is low, instead of turning left at the gate (the way the signs tell you to go), just stay to the right and do a 3-point turn to park in one of the available spaces.
